He never wanted to be here,
born to darkness and endless roadways.
His mother, the only other,
he had ever known,
gave up her body to nourish his own.
And then the loud ones began to appear,
found by following sobs,
cries for help or release.
And he was glad to oblige.
What else could he do? Puny as they were,
unsuited for survival, merely meat.
Only once he thought he saw God
through a crack in the sky,
quickly covered by another falling body.
